Oh yea, before I forget: I haven't had any really ridiculous food yet. In Iceland, my host served me some bread that functioned like pita but tasted burnt, like it had just been in a fire. I had fish and chips in London, but didn't fancy it much. I also had a delicious salad made with something called...mousilini? I don't know, and it isn't even English, it's a staple of the Incan culture! In Scotland, I had a delicious, delicious burger that they flame-grilled in front of me at the pub and that was served with both salad and fries. The waffles they served in Brussels were more like a desert than a breakfast food and have caramelized sugar on them -- absolutely delicious! I'm going to try and make some when I get home. The chocolate that I tasted by going from shop to shop getting free sample was also good, but I'm not a huge chocolate fan and even though it was very smooth, i got full quick enough. Here in Amsterdam, there are loads of coffee shops but that tends to mean weed, really. I've had some good caramel coffee. Also, they have entire fast food joint dedicated to French fries. They sell big bags of fries -- called chips here -- and nothing else. I got a bag and ended up feeding half to the pigeons because it was too much. A good middle eastern shop next door makes this wrap called a Shoarma that is ridiculously good, I think it's lamb. A lot of hostels also serve a simple breakfast, cereal and toast, but almost all of them have Nutella or some knock off brand. Oh, and the rose lemonade I hade on the beach was unbelievable.
As for best/worst:
Iceland - best = hiking up to see the tallest waterfall. Everything was gorgeous and clean. The water from the river was more refreshing than almost any water I can remember, though I confess I don't really remember my refreshing water moments :) Worst = sleeping in the car. I was so cold, I don't think my body has forgiven me still two weeks later!
Glasgow - best = checking out the Necropolis early in the morning before my bus to Edinburgh, it was spooky and quiet but calming in that chilling, I see dead people sort of calm. Worse = the rain, it made everything cold (I think there's a pattern emerging. I don't like the cold!)
Edinburgh - best = hiking up Arthur's Seat. The view from the top was breath taking, and it was completely unexpected, especially in the middle of a decent sized town. Worst = the bus ride to London. I felt like the living dead when I got off that bus.
London - best = seeing Sherlock Holmes' house ^_^ cheesy, but it made me really, really happy. Worst = that bus ride! It's worth mentioning twice, it was so awful!!
Brussels - best = stumbling across the Made From Spain festival beneath the Atomium. The party was so lively and the Atomium so sparkly, it made the setting magical. Worst = the men. They were creepy, stalker-y, and gave me the bad chills.
Amsterdam - best = tie between listening to the heart-wrenching music of the cello player on the street and watching the old men play their chess games! The cello really did almost make me cry, he was so fantastic. And the old men behave like kings, making enormous decisions with each move. Worst = how trashed the city got on Sunday morning. People go to Amsterdam because it's a party city; if I lived here, I'd hate tourists because of how disrespectful and dirty they are to a city that's naturally extremely green.
Den Haag - best = beach lounges! Sitting on cushions and watching the North Sea rolling by. Worst = it's pretty pricy there. I couldn't be a beach bum because they'd probably charge me!
